I walk into businesses for a living.
Some days it’s a manufacturing floor humming with decades of grit. Other days I see a quiet office filled with handwritten notes, loyal customers, and systems that only one person fully understands.
Every single time, I feel it. The weight of what’s been built.
Because businesses aren’t just businesses.
They are early mornings.
They are missed vacations.
They are second mortgages and sleepless nights.
They are marriages tested and families rallied.
They are identity.
And I respect the hell out of that.
As a business broker, I have the privilege of stepping into worlds owners have spent years, sometimes a lifetime, creating. I see the emotion, the passion in what that business delivers. I see the pride. I see the resilience. I see the “we figured it out no matter what” mentality that defines entrepreneurs.
Yet. I also see something else.
Neglect.
Not neglect from lack of care. It is quite the opposite. It is neglect born from being too deep in the business to ever step back and work ON it.
Processes that live in someone’s head.
Financials that are just “good enough.”
Customer concentration that is risky.
Key employees who are loyal, but undocumented in their structure.
And growth? It’s often accidental instead of intentional.
Yet, here’s the hard truth: that neglect, unintentional as it may be, can quietly erode the value of everything you’ve built.
This is the part that breaks my heart.
What I see? I see a business that should be worth more! A legacy that deserves to be carried on!
I see an owner who has done everything right in terms of hustle, yet hasn’t been guided on how to position that hustle for a future transition.
Too often, I see incredible businesses close their doors. It is not because they failed, but because they weren’t prepared for the exit.
No plan.
No positioning.
No transition strategy.
Just . . . done.
And that’s not okay!
At the Zirbes Group, we don’t just “list businesses.” It’s actually the smallest part of what we do. Our real work happens long before a business ever hits the market.
We step in as guides. Translators. Strategists.
We guide owners to:
- See their business the way a buyer will see it
- Strengthen the areas that quietly hurt value
- Build systems that outlive them
- Position the business for transferability, not just survival
- Maximize value, both financially and emotionally
Because selling a business isn’t just a transaction.
It’s a transition of legacy.
And when we do it right, it doesn’t end the story, it ensures it continues.
Our mission is simple, but it’s not small:
Keep great businesses open.
Keep jobs intact.
Keep communities supported.
Keep legacies alive.
Every time I walk through a set of doors, I know I’m stepping into someone’s life’s work.
I refuse to let that story end prematurely just because no one showed them how to prepare for what comes next.
Built something worth talking about? Your life’s work is ready for what’s next! Let’s talk.
